The Ysyk-Ata gorge lies in Kyrgyzstan's Chuy region, about 77 kilometres from Bishkek, at an elevation of roughly 1,775 metres, and is best known for the thermal mineral springs that emerge there at temperatures around 54 degrees Celsius. These springs have long fed one of Kyrgyzstan's oldest health resorts, where mineral baths, therapeutic mud, physiotherapy, massage and cave-air treatments are used to treat ailments ranging from arthritis to digestive and nervous-system disorders. Beyond the sanatorium, the gorge itself is framed by forest and alpine meadow and contains two waterfalls set about five kilometres apart, drawing hikers as well as visitors seeking the springs' therapeutic reputation. The combination of scenic mountain gorge and centuries-old balneological tradition has made Ysyk-Ata one of the more established nature and wellness destinations within easy reach of the Kyrgyz capital.
