Zichy-tó
Zichy Lake is a semi-artificial lake used as an irrigation reservoir in the outskirts of Zichyújfalu, Fejér County.
Geography
In addition to groundwater, the lake is fed by the Pál spring, which originates not far from Pálmajor, and its spillway leads the water into the Middle Hippolyt Ditch. The Middle Hippolyt Ditch is not one kilometre long, as it merges into the Eastern Hippolyt Ditch flowing east of it.
To the north and east there are wooded belt zones. Its southern part is separated from the low‑lying layers by a dam, a country road runs along the dam, and a few hundred metres from its western side the road 6212 passes. Near the lake is the Zichyújfalu cemetery, which is associated with interesting histories.
In the centre of the irrigation lake a man‑made island rises.
Fauna
The lake, which was converted into an irrigation reservoir a few years ago, despite its relatively small size is very rich in bird and fish species. In 2011 the villagers counted twelve swans living there. The wildlife protection area north of the lake includes a marshy floodplain that is flooded each spring by the Pál stream (which flows into the lake). Numerous deer families and other game live here.
Economy
On the western side of the lake there are storage rows, a machine yard and grain stores. The area that once operated as a chemical plant is also on the western side of the lake, where plant protection agents were diluted with water.
