The 1st Bicycle Museum in Balassagyarmat opened in the summer of 2020 based on a civil initiative, by merging and presenting the collections of individual bicycle collectors.

The exhibition provides an overview of the history of bicycle development from the 1850s to the present day.

The basis of the collection consists of pieces from the collection of early bicycles, velocipedes and penny-farthings of Csaba Sajgó, as well as the museum bicycles of collectors János Siklósi, Bálint Márton, and János Kádár. Also on display are old children's bicycles, racing bicycles and collections of bicycle bells. In cooperation with the also local Pannónia Motorcycle Museum, a display room has been created for legendary domestically produced motorcycles from the period 1950‑75. The collection is enriched by full‑scale aircraft models, old skis, skates and roller skates.

History

The museum will move in April 2023 to a new location, the downtown county house. The new venue will open on April 15, 2023.
