History

Adeyze Mosque is one of the late Ottoman period mosques built in the early 20th century. The patron of the building is Hacı Mustafa Ağa. The inscription above the mosque’s entrance door bears the date 1911. The mosque was repaired after a fire in 1910 and the women’s gallery was renewed. In 1955 its ceiling was renewed and the windows were raised to a higher level. In 1984 the roof was repaired, the gutters were renewed, and the soil layer on the ceiling was removed and replaced with insulation material. Finally, it was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2018.

Architecture

The mosque is a structure with cut stone walls, a wooden ceiling, and a broken (hip) roof. Its roof is covered with Marseille tiles. The interior, which is nearly rectangular but slightly irregular, measures approximately 7.40 × 10.50 metres. Including the last congregation area, the length of the building reaches about 12.90 metres. The main entrance is on the west façade. On the west side there is a double-leaf iron-framed door. The door is a flat arch and uses cut stone and marble in the voussoir parts. In the middle of the arch there is a protruding keystone. The stylized vegetal ornamentation in this section is repeated in the window arches. On the south façade there are two large windows, and on the west façade one large window. On the north‑west wall there is a small rectangular window at the upper level. The large windows have cut‑stone voussoirs and flat stone arches.

The interior of the mosque is covered with a wooden boat-shaped ceiling. In the center of the ceiling there is a square-shaped dome. This section has carved ornamentation and wooden decorations in the form of pendants at the corners. The mihrab has a recessed arrangement flanked by half columns on the sides. The wooden minbar is located in the southwest corner. The women's gallery is on the north, above the main prayer area, and is accessed by a wooden staircase leading from the door on the northwest. The gallery consists of five wooden columns and walls, with the front part being a wooden lattice.

The minaret is located at the southwest corner of the mosque and rises from the roof level. It transitions from a base made of small cut stones to a cylindrical brick shaft. Below the balcony there are stone and niche motifs. The balcony railing is made of cut stone, the balustrade part of brick, and the dome of the balcony of cut stone.
