Ali Nacar Mosque is counted among the oldest surviving mosques in Gaziantep's historic core, with its Mamluk-period origins placing it earlier than most of the city's many Ottoman foundations. The mosque's name appears in the seventeenth-century travel account of the Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi, confirming that it was already a recognized landmark of Antep by his visit. Its original Mamluk-era fabric, however, has been substantially altered over the centuries: records of repairs carried out in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and again in 1952, mean that much of what visitors see today reflects later rebuilding rather than the mosque's first form. It remains an active neighborhood place of worship and is referenced by local heritage surveys as one of the layered religious structures that together trace Gaziantep's transition from Mamluk to Ottoman rule.
