Handan Bey Mosque
Handan Bey Mosque, also known as Handaniye Mosque, lies in the Karagoz neighborhood of Gaziantep's Sahinbey district. It was founded by Handan Aga, remembered in local accounts as one of the more modest beys of Erzincan origin who settled in Antep, with the earliest written reference to the mosque appearing in records from 1647. The building was rebuilt in 1791 after falling into disrepair, and was damaged again during a later defense of the city before being restored once more. An unusual feature of its endowment was an attached saddlery workshop, whose income was earmarked to pay for the mosque's upkeep and repairs after the eighteenth-century rebuilding. The mosque remains a small neighborhood place of worship within walking distance of central Gaziantep.
