Art Gallery of Paks
The Paksi Képtár is an institution founded in the city of Paks to present contemporary visual art works, whose permanent exhibition consists mainly of works by avant‑garde artists.
History
Hopp‑Halász Károly, a Paksi visual artist awarded the Munkácsy Mihály prize, founded it in 1991 in the Erzsébet Grand Hotel and then directed it for ten years. Since 2005 it operated first in the city museum, and since 2008 in its own separate building complex, on the former Paksi Conservatory site covering about 1000 m². The new educational and cultural concept was developed by visual artist Ritter János. Temporary exhibitions were also organized in the Hangár, a music performance venue, sometimes flavored with contemporary live music. In summer it was the venue of the three‑day Paksi Jazz Festival.
On 19 December 2023, a plastic ice‑skating rink opened under the name Képtárkori at the gallery’s location, and the artworks returned to the city museum building.
