Cyprus Turkish History and National Struggle Museum
The National Struggle Museum is a museum located in a military area in Nicosia, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). It was established on the Barbar Tower (the eleventh tower of the Nicosia walls, called "Barbaro" in the Venetian period and "Musalla" in the Ottoman period) in the Mujahids site. Construction of the museum building, which covers an area of 680 square metres, began in 1978 and it was opened to the public on 1 August 1982. The renovation works that started in 1978 cost 1 million Turkish lira. The museum was founded to document the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot community from 1878 to the present and to explain to its visitors why, how and under what conditions this struggle was carried out. The museum consists of an entrance hall and three sections.
In 2021, the museum was renovated in cooperation with the Etimesgut Municipality, and more than twenty statues of individuals who were pioneers in the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot community were added to the museum’s entrance area.
