Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum
Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum is a museum established in memory of Fazıl Küçük, who was elected the first vice president of the Republic of Cyprus founded jointly by Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, and is located in North Nicosia, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The museum exhibits Küçük’s historical documents and belongings. The house, built in 1925 of cut yellow stone, passed to Fazıl Küçük’s family by purchase. The ground floor of the building was used as a medical examination room from 1939, as a clinic from 1940 to 1958, and the upper floor as a residence. Until the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) was founded in 1958, it served as the headquarters of the Turkish people’s resistance and, from 1942 until Küçük’s death, also as the office of the newspaper Halkın Sesi. It was arranged as a museum on 14 March 1997. It was expropriated by the state on 16 October 2002. The museum holds the distinction of being the first private museum in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Due to a renovation that began in mid‑2015, the museum was closed for about eight months and reopened to visitors on 21 April 2016. Approximately 300,000 TL was spent on the interior and exterior restoration of the museum.
