The Firefighting Museum of Eger occupies a former fire station on Tűzoltó tér, or Firefighters' Square, in the city center, next to the Markhot Ferenc Hospital. Eger's organized fire brigade was established in 1927, and the idea of a dedicated collection documenting its work took shape as early as 1929, though the museum in its present form only opened to the public in September 1999. Its exhibits trace the development of firefighting from early hand-operated pumps through period uniforms and historic fire vehicles, illustrating how the profession evolved from a largely volunteer, equipment-poor activity into an organized emergency service. Designed to appeal to families and school groups as much as specialists, the museum presents firefighting as both a technical history and a story of civic courage, and remains one of the smaller specialist museums clustered in Eger's historic center alongside the city's better-known castle and wine-cellar attractions.
