Gazi Pavillion
Gazi Pavilion or Atatürk Pavilion, a two‑storey historic pavilion located in Diyarbakır. The building dates from the 15th century and is known as an Akkoyunlu work. Previously known as Semanoğlu Pavilion, it was used as a headquarters by the commander of the 16th Corps, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, during World War I. Atatürk arrived in Diyarbakır on 14 March 1916 and stayed in this pavilion until 27 March 1917. It was purchased by the Diyarbakır Municipality in 1937 and presented as a gift to Atatürk.
One of the examples made of black‑white cut stone with a wide eyvan in the style of Diyarbakır houses, the small door on the right side of the pavilion’s entrance leads to the kitchen and the door on the left leads to the tea house. The upper floor contains workrooms and bedrooms. A part of the upper floor did not survive to the present day because it was destroyed during restoration.
The pavilion displays items belonging to Atatürk. It is currently open to the public as a tour, recreation, and picnic area.
