The Gizi Bajor Actors' Museum opened in Gizi Bajor's former villa on the first anniversary of Bajor Gizi's death, February 12, 1952, at the initiative of Hilda Gobbi. The museum is the exhibition venue of the National Theatre History Museum and Institute, which welcomes visitors with theatre history exhibitions from Wednesday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

History

In the museum that developed from Gizi Bajor's estate and memorial room, the founder highlighted Jászai Mari and Márkus Emília alongside the namesake from Hungarian theatre history, with their own memorial rooms.

Hilda Gobbi received a memorial room in 1990. Since 1953 the professional supervision and management of the Museum has been carried out by the National Theatre History Museum, which was established on November 2, 1952, and which in 1991 was placed among the public collections in the sponsoring ministry under the name National Theatre History Museum and Institute (OSZMI).

The newly rethought villa's ground floor retains the earlier memorial rooms composed around individual personalities. The artistic careers of the four actresses span more than a hundred years of the National Theatre's history, from the Szigligeti period (Jászai Mari), through the Paulay period (Jászai Mari, Márkus Emília), through the directorships of Sándor Hevesi and Antal Németh up to the late 1940s (Gizi Bajor), and then the Endre Marton and Tamás Major periods up to the early 1980s (Hilda Gobbi). On the upper floor thematic rooms (operetta, dance art) and rooms offering a glimpse into the theatre's backstage secrets await visitors.

The museum's unique atmosphere is largely defined by the neo‑Baroque, early‑20th‑century villa, Gizi Bajor's former home, and its extensive landscaped garden.

Between 2017 and 2021 it was organizationally part of the Petőfi Literary Museum. From the autumn of 2021 it has been part of the Foundation for Theatre and Film Arts (SZFA).
