The Határrét reservoir is an artificially created standing water body in the western part of Pest County, on the northern edge of the Solymári valley, at the triple border of Pilisvörösvár, Pilisszántó and Csobánka. The lake was formed by damming the Határ-réti stream, whose flow direction on this section is roughly northwest–southeast; its western side (on both banks of the stream) lies in the Pilisszántó area, its southern bank belongs to Pilisvörösvár, and its northeastern part belongs to Csobánka. It serves fishing and recreational purposes and is a popular excursion spot.

Access

The lake can be reached from the road connecting Pilisvörösvár and Pilisszántó; from that road one must turn right, heading east – about 4 kilometres of driving from the centre of Pilisvörösvár – where it reaches the northern edge of the Solymári valley and, at the foot of Hosszú-hegy, after a stream bridge, makes a sharp turn to the west. From the turn, another approximately 800 metres must be driven to the reservoir entrance.

From Budapest the reservoir is also reachable by public transport, using Volánbusz lines 820 or 830. One must alight from the bus at the Pilisszántó, small bridge stop, which is located directly after the sharp turn described above. From the stop, a few steps eastward, i.e., walking back, lead to the same turn, from which a paved road leads to the lake.

Parameters

The lake’s water area is 7.9 hectares, its length is slightly more than 400 metres, its average width is around 150 metres, and its maximum width approaches 200 metres. On its shore there is a fish‑house and a gated car park; the gate is kept closed outside opening hours; parking inside the gate is subject to a fee for those without a fishing permit. Fishing is allowed only from the north and south banks; the stream’s inflow area on the western part of the lake is a prohibited zone, as is the valley‑closing dam. No other fishing is permitted, and neither boats nor floating feeding devices may be used. The water area is managed by the Kék Duna Fishing Association, water body code 13-0036-1-1.

Economic utilization

Fishing is possible on the lake in compliance with national and local fishing rules and regulations; the reservoir, as a fishing site, is open only from sunrise to sunset, thus night fishing is not allowed in the area. Among the fishing methods, lure and artificial bait fishing are also permitted here, but fish can be caught only in this way without disturbing other anglers.

Fish

Carp are stocked in the lake in the greatest proportion, several times a year, in catchable size, and pike, zander, bream, and roach species also occur. Among the non-protected fish species, individual carp exceeding a weight of 5 kilograms are protected and must be released back into the water after capture.
