Hoca Ahmed Fakih Mosque, a 13th-century Seljuk period mosque and complex in the Meram district of Konya.

History

Although İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı wrote that many auxiliary structures were located next to the mosque, only the restored ruined state of the mosque and the Ahmed Fakih tomb have survived to the present day. Konyalı mentions in the History of Konya that the walls of an old zawiya were between the bathhouse, whose water system is on the qibla side of the mosque, and the nearby Karatay Chapel, but these have not reached the present day.

The mosque and complex were renovated in 1909, and during this renovation it was recorded that the inscription above the main gate of the mosque was stolen. This inscription was written in black on a blue background and was accompanied by a decoration with Seljuk tiles.

Today the largely lost original mosque and tomb are open for worship in Konya, Meram, Armağan neighborhood, on Hoca Ahmed Fakih Street of the same name.

Architecture

The mosque was built of cut stone. Its original roof was a single dome, while today it is wooden.

Graves

In the mosque garden there are some graves from the Ottoman and Seljuk periods. These graves are located on the right and left of the path between the main gate and the chapel gate, west of the tomb. Some of the stones of these graves were embedded in the ground and were uncovered during the 1993 renovation.
