Hüseyin İsa Bey Mosque (or Great Mosque) is a mosque located in Ergene neighborhood, Bornova district, İzmir province, Turkey. The Hüseyin İsa Bey tomb is located in the courtyard of the Hüseyin İsa Bey Mosque, in the northwest corner of the courtyard.

History

It is unknown when and by whom the Hüseyin İsa Bey Mosque was built. The mosque's inscription has not survived to the present day. Because of the single-domed section on the mihrab, it is thought to have been built during the Aydın dynasty period. This muqarnas dome (the place reserved for rulers) found in all Seljuk mosques is also present in the Hüseyin İsa Bey Mosque. The inscription on the mosque states that it was repaired in 1740 by Seyyit Ali Ağa.

Architectural features

The Hüseyin İsa Bey Mosque has a plan that is close to a square rectangle. It is made of cut stone and rubble stone. There is a domed section in front of the mihrab. Other mosques with a domed section in front of the mihrab are the Kayseri Grand Mosque, Erzurum Grand Mosque and Birgi Grand Mosques, as well as the Eşrefoğlu Mosque in Beyşehir.
