According to its inscription, Çerkes İskender Pasha, the first Beylerbey of Van Province, commissioned the mosque bearing his name inside the Ottoman Castle in Ahlat in 1564-1565. Also, the hamam located next to the mosque is now demolished.

The main worship space is 13.05 x 12.83 m and is covered by a single dome. In the northwest corner, the minaret with a square base measuring 3.18 x 3.18 m rises as a cylinder.

The mosque, whose ownership belongs to the General Directorate of Foundations, was most recently restored in 2005 by the Bitlis Foundations Regional Directorate and opened to visitors.
