JPM Modern Hungarian Gallery, Pécs
The JPM Modern Hungarian Library (Pécs, Papnövelde street 5) gives a comprehensive cross-section of the works of the most important artists of Hungarian art dating back over a hundred years.
Establishment and collection of the calendar
The JPM Modern Hungarian Library in Beijing - the art department of the Janus Pannonius Museum - mainly collects works of Hungarian visual art from the 19th and 20th centuries. To date, the museum holds about 10 thousand works of art. The gallery began its operation a few months after the 1956 revolution and six months before the opening of the Hungarian National Gallery, thus more than 50 years old.
The list of the best works of Hungarian visual art can be found here: those who founded schools, grouped together and who created a unique, individual style as a solitary giant. The list can be convincing by mentioning only a few names: Károly Ferenczy, János Thorma from his uncles, József Rippl-Rónai, János Nagy Balogh from the so-called "decoratory" direction, Berény Róbert, Czigány Dezső, Tihanyi Lajos from the Nyolcak group, Nemes-Lampth József, Bortnyik Sor, Kmetty János - from the Activists' circle and the European representative Kornissn Dezsyar, Bathy Endam, Tihany.
The exhibition of the paintings and sculptures at the Grand Palais de l'Art commence with the activities of the art institute and ends with a review of the activities of the European School, which operated for almost three years after 1945.
Among the most important paintings of the street exhibitions of Captalan are the works of Josef Alkonyat of Rippl-Rona, in an intimate room (1894), Gulácsy Lajos, The opium-sucking dream (1913-18), Berény, a self-portrait by Robert Cilinderes (1907), Sándor of Galimberti: Amsterdam (1914-15), Korniss Dezső, the Canter (1946).
Contemporary Collection
The Contemporary Collection, on the second floor of the former Baroque waiting room, focuses on new developments in Hungarian art after the period of socialist realism, from the "classical" avant-garde artists (Ország Lili, Korniss Dezső, Bálint Endre) still making in the fifties and sixties and the first generation of neo-avant-garde artists (Bak Imre, Fajó János, István Nádler, Totale Endre) emerging in parallel with them, to the new achievements (e.g. Erdély Miklós, Jovánics György, Szabados Árpád).
In 2010, the number of works of art is expected to reach 12 thousand.
