Kadı Mosque is a mosque located in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. It is a structure from the Akkoyunlu period.

History

Although the construction inscription of the mosque located in the northeast of the city is not present, it is understood from the foundation deed, which no longer exists, that it was commissioned by Kadı İsmail between 1533 and 1543. It was repaired by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2005 but suffered severe damage in the 2015-16 Sur clashes and was later restored.

Architecture

Built of cut basalt stone, Kadı Mosque has an irregular quadrilateral plan extending north‑south externally. A recessed arched doorway on the east leads to an irregular quadrilateral‑plan courtyard. On the south side of the courtyard there is a transverse rectangular‑plan, two‑aisled prayer hall; on the north side there is a sizable iwan and a classroom, and in the northwest corner there is a tomb. Its roof is a flat, stone‑supported, plain roof carried by stone consoles. To the north of the mosque there is an ablution fountain built of white stone.
