Opening

Construction of the Karaganda Central Mosque began in 1989. However, due to various circumstances, the construction lasted 11 years. Finally, on December 23, 2000, the mosque was inaugurated ceremonially. The opening ceremony was attended by President N.A. Nazarbayev and Chief Mufti Abstattar Kazy Derbisauli. The mosque's beautifully decorated patterned prayer halls for men and women attract attention with their elegance.

Also, the dome‑covered rooms where a marriage is performed, the call to prayer is given to a child and a name is assigned, and the two lecture rooms for 40 people each have been put into operation. A room for keeping the deceased, a washing room, a mortuary, a 300‑person dining hall and a shop selling books have also been opened. The mosque imams give sermons once a month at higher education institutions, military units and prisons. They hold religious lectures weekly at orphanage No. 7. The forgotten “Mäulit” celebration, held for 70 years, was conducted together with a Qur’an recitation competition in the city’s largest building – the miners’ cultural palace. In 1995, the number of people coming for Friday prayer was about 15, now it exceeds 500.
