Housed inside the Forgách family's former castle in Szécsény, this county museum is named for Ferenc Kubinyi (1796–1874), a Hungarian nobleman who worked as a notary, paleontologist, geologist and politician. Part of the castle's historic interior survives in a restored suite of three rooms once used by the women of the household, giving visitors a sense of aristocratic domestic life. The museum's permanent displays focus on the prehistory of Nógrád county: one exhibition reconstructs New Stone Age settlement life using local archaeological finds, including a recreated grave, while another presents a Bronze Age burial rite through a diorama populated with figures dressed in original jewelry and grave goods recovered from the region. Together the building and its collections connect the castle's aristocratic past with the deeper archaeological record of the surrounding Nógrád landscape, making it one of the region's principal local-history museums.
