The Lapos Cave is one of the caves located in the Pilis Mountains in the Danube–Ipoly National Park.

Description

The cave is located in the Magas-erdő at the foot of the mountain on the side of Pilisborosjenő’s outskirts, facing towards Nagy-Kevély Pilisborosjenő, with its entrance looking towards Ny, which is flat and wide. The small cave is not far from section number 15 of the National Blue Trail. After leaving the inner area of Pilisborosjenő and then the Teve rock, it can be approached on the tourist path marked with a blue stripe. Before the marked tourist path leading to the Kevély ridge turns sharply right at a right angle and begins to climb steeply, one must turn right off the tourist path into the forest, where the cave formed in the low rock wall can be seen. No caving equipment is required to view the cave entrance without a permit.

Research history

In 1997, on behalf of the Cave Survey Department, László Sásdi and Richárd Kovács surveyed the cave, and based on the survey the cave’s floor plan map and longitudinal section map were drawn. According to the survey, the Lapos Cave with the cave cadastral number 4820-33 is 2.4 m long and 0.5 m deep.
