Nuri Mehmet Pasha Mosque
Nuri Mehmet Pasha Mosque stands on Suburcu Street in Gaziantep's Sahinbey district and takes its name from the Ottoman pasha who commissioned it. Court records place its construction shortly before 1786, while an inscription on the minaret is dated 1785 and a later inscription in the mihrab is dated 1834, together pointing to a late eighteenth-century origin with subsequent repair. The building suffered damage during the French occupation of Gaziantep in the early 1920s and was afterward used as a military storage depot. Between 1958 and 1968, following further restoration, it served as a museum before being returned to use as a mosque. A later renovation began in November 2007 and the mosque reopened for worship in October 2008. Nuri Mehmet Pasha's own tomb lies in the small cemetery beside the building's eastern wall.
