Mausoleum of Abu Abdullah Rudaki
The Mausoleum of Abu Abdullah Rudaki — the tomb of the chief figure of classical Tajik-Persian literature Abu Abdullah Rudaki (858‑941) is located 60 km in the eastern part of the city of Panjakent, in the center of the village Panjrud. It consists of an octagonal brick building with a single-chamber room and a gallery. In 2008, on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of the poet, the Rudaki tomb was restored.
It is very strange that Rudaki’s grave, the father of Persian poetry, also remained unknown for a long time and only later, when the payment council to the language of national identity reappeared, was it identified through Sadiddin Ayni and, within about twenty years, from the inscriptions and historical knowledge written in Samarkand. Its pillars, which were a sign of a blind person, which was clearly evident that this blind person was not a mother, confirmed Ayni’s findings. With the discovery of this grave a tomb similar to the Attar tomb was built on the hill of his grave, which now in the village of Panjrud in Panjakent and 170 kilometers north of the city of Dushanbe was built, which of course the route to reach it is still very difficult and the destruction of roads and bridges and the lack of proper transport means for going to and returning from it are obstacles for travelers and visitors. In any case, being in that green place and the pleasant smell of green vegetables and fruit brings a vivid description to a person, which has never been lacking in the creation of his poetic taste. The Rudaki tomb has a vaulted shape and a turquoise dome on top of it, which has been restored by a few hands of the Neshapur craftsmen.
