The Gazanfar caves are a group of medieval cave dwellings cut into the southern slope of Gazanfar mountain near the village of Sundu in the Gobustan district of Azerbaijan. Known locally as the Gazanfar wells-and-caves (Qəzənfər quyulu mağaraları), the complex combines hollowed-out chambers with associated wells, reflecting a long-standing practice in the region of adapting the area's soft limestone hillsides for shelter and storage. The caves sit within Gobustan, a district famous more broadly for its dry, hilly terrain and ancient rock art; the prehistoric petroglyphs scattered across the wider Gobustan reserve were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. While the Gazanfar caves themselves are a smaller, lesser-documented site compared to the petroglyph reserve, they add to the picture of how people have used Gobustan's rocky landscape for settlement and refuge across different historical periods.
