RepTár Aviation Museum
The RepTár Szolnok Aviation Museum is a Hungarian aviation history exhibition and event venue in Szolnok. The museum has more than 4 500 m² of covered exhibition space and an open courtyard of about 60 000 m².
History
The creation and construction of the museum, equipped on the former Szolnok engine house site, began in 2015 with 2.63 billion forints, 100 % from European Union funding sources. It was opened on 1 September 2016.
In addition to the displayed aircraft, the collection also contains interactive devices, whose assembly was assisted by specialists from the Institute and Museum of Military History. Among the exhibited items are military aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, other military technical equipment (e.g., air defence weapons), aircraft engines, powerplants, models, aircraft wreckage, as well as memorabilia of Hungarian aviation history.
Most of the displayed aircraft come from the Szandaszőlős Aviation Museum, which closed on 31 October 2015. Several large aircraft (An‑26, Il‑28, Il‑14, Il‑18, Tu‑134), as well as two fighter aircraft (JA 37 Viggen, Hawker Hunter) however remained at the old exhibition site, which is no longer open to visitors.
The RepTár collection became accessible year‑round, as the previous museum was open only from spring to autumn.
