The Tiszazugi Geographical Museum, in the town of Tiszaföldvár on the left bank of the Tisza River about 25 kilometers south of Szolnok, has operated since 1956 as Hungary's first museum dedicated specifically to geography. Its collection focuses on the natural environment, economic geography and local history of the Tiszazug micro-region, comprising roughly two thousand natural-science specimens, around a thousand ethnographic objects, more than two thousand historical documents and nearly twelve thousand archival items, together with photographic negatives, slides, books and maps. Its paleontological holdings rank as the third largest of their kind in Hungary. Since June 2009 the museum has presented its collection through a permanent exhibition called "Tiszavilág" ("World of the Tisza"), designed to combine scientific accuracy with an interactive, child-friendly presentation of the river landscape and its natural history.
