Sports Museum, Makó
The Makó Sports Museum is located in the Financial Palace building, in two rooms on its second floor; its purpose is to rescue and preserve sports memorabilia related to the city and its natives.
The exhibition space opened as the closing event of the Sports Year on 31 December 2004. It displays sports relics from the past nearly 100 years. The responsibility for caring for the collection lies with the then chairman of the City Council's Sports Committee. Visitors can view medals, trophies, certificates earned by local athletes and sports clubs; browse the archive of regional sports news, and learn about the lives of the city's most successful athletes. The estate exhibition of János Erdei, the legacy of Magdolna Wittenberger, a Makó-born hurdler and long jumper, and the material of László Szabó, world championship silver‑medalist handball player, can be seen in the showcase. The Sports Museum is open every Thursday morning from 9 to 12, but the exhibited materials can also be viewed by special request at another pre‑arranged time.
