Szilas Lake (Nevesincs Lake) is located in Budapest's 15th district, near the intersection of the Szilas stream and the section of the M3 motorway leading out of the city, behind the Rákospalota public cemetery. The area, together with the surrounding marshy land, i.e., the reed-covered, swampy, difficult-to-traverse vegetation, covers 23.1 hectares.

The shallow, clear-water lake is one of the last remaining natural wet habitats in the Pesti Plain. A reedbed, as well as a softwood forest (composed of 40–50-year-old summer oaks and oaks), adjoins it. In the understory of the remnant forest more than 1,000 individual wild orchids are found, along with white bird's-nest orchid and broad-leaved lady's‑tresses.

In the water lives a genetically pure population of broad carp. In the reedbed, the relatively rare reed posy‑bushes of Budapest nest in larger numbers.

For stronger protection of the area, significant social cooperation has developed against illegal dumping, vandalism, and the extraction of the (privately owned) softwood forest.
