Timurtaş Paşa Mosque
Timurtaşpaşa Mosque (also called Takkeciler or Takvâcılar Mosque), a mosque in Kütahya. It is located near the Small Bazaar.
It was commissioned by Sarı Timurtaş Paşa in 1389 during the Kütahya garrison. Evliya Çelebi, who visited Kütahya in 1672, writes that the congregation of the mosque was large and that the two wooden columns under the muezzin’s balcony were indescribably beautiful.
In 1761 the governor of the Anatolia Province, Silahdar Mehmed Paşa, had the mosque repaired, added a minaret and ablution fountains, and increased its endowment. Silahdar Mehmed Paşa had the mosque’s endowment deed arranged in December 1764 and appointed Abdurrahman Muhiddin Efendi, a descendant of the Muhyi zade family in Kütahya, as kaymakam and nazır. The mosque was repaired in 1834 and 1836 by the governor of Kütahya, Dilaver Paşa. This began with a passageway described as the last congregation place. The top of this passageway was covered with a wooden ceiling. The mosque was later, in 1839, repaired again in a reconstructive manner by the Kütahya minister of public works, Sâlih Efendi. The central nave is covered by a dome with a 9‑meter drum and four windows. The present entrance and courtyard gate of the mosque are from the original building, and the door leaves date from the 16th century. The area around the courtyard gate should be simple with stalactite and leaf motifs, and the arch stones should be carved.
