Adatepe is a stone-built village in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale, on the slopes of the Kaz Dağları (Mount Ida) range, and its village mosque stands at the heart of the settlement's historic core. The mosque sits among cobbled lanes lined with old stone houses and near the former stone schoolhouse, together forming one of the best-preserved examples of traditional Aegean village architecture in the region. The area is traditionally linked to ancient Gargaros, the peak that Homer's Iliad describes as the vantage point from which Zeus and Hera watched the Trojan War unfold on the plain below. In 1989 the village was declared a protected conservation site, a designation that has kept its historic houses, mosque, and street pattern largely intact. Today the mosque continues to serve as the religious and social center of a village now also known for olive oil production and its popularity with visitors drawn to its preserved Ottoman-era character.
