The Atabey Armağan Madrasa forms part of the Yivli Minare religious complex in Antalya's old city, and was built in 1239 or 1240 under the patronage of the Seljuk governor Atabey Armağan. Today only its carved stone portal still stands upright; the rest of the teaching building was lost over the centuries. A six-line Arabic inscription set into the niche above the portal arch records that the structure was a madrasa and names both its founder and the year of construction. Excavation and restoration work at the site has since uncovered more of the original layout buried underground: the stone paving of the courtyard, column bases, the remains of three student cells, and the wall of the main iwan, showing that the madrasa was originally a two-story building arranged around an open courtyard lined with porticoes on two sides and anchored by two iwans.
