The Demirchi Archaeological Museum opened on 26 August 2018 in the village of Demirchi in Azerbaijan's Shamakhi district, built with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to display finds from a major necropolis discovered nearby. Demirchi itself traces its founding to the fifteenth century, when blacksmith families from the village of Ahan in Ismayilli settled there, giving the village its name. The museum's collection centers on a three-hectare burial ground known as the Gadali plateau, about four kilometers from the village, where archaeologists uncovered some thirty stone-box graves, sections of fortress walls and underground storage chambers dating from late antiquity into the early Middle Ages. The single-story building houses open and enclosed exhibition halls along with restoration workspaces; its first hall presents graves excavated during the Shamakhi-Aghsu expedition of 2016-2018, while a second hall traces material culture from ancient times through the end of the Middle Ages found across the wider Shamakhi area.
