Emmerich Kálmán Memorial House
The Kálmán Imre Museum is located in the composer’s birthplace house in Siófok, on Kálmán Imre promenade. The memorial house was opened on October 22, 1987, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of his birth.
The museum’s permanent exhibition on the ground‑floor part of the birthplace presents many valuable items from the artist’s legacy, including his piano. In the exhibition rooms visitors can hear excerpts from the world‑famous operettas during their visit.
The composer’s widow, Vera Kálmán, and his children, Yvonne and Charles, donated in August 1991 to the museum several important pieces from the family memorabilia exhibited at the Hofburg in Vienna, including a bust of Kálmán Imre by the Parisian sculptor E. D. Minazzoli, plaster casts of the artist’s hands, and the composer’s high Austrian decoration.
The museum also has many foreign visitors; in the 2010s numerous Russian tourists already visit it. An interesting fact is that Kálmán Imre’s wife’s mother was a lady‑in‑waiting at the Peterwarde court. Kálmán Imre’s operettas enjoyed great popularity throughout the Soviet Union even during the communist era. Recently a Japanese television crew also recorded the memorial house for a program about Kálmán Imre.
Periodic visual art exhibitions are organized on the upper floor.
