The Esterházy Mansion in Győr is a civic Baroque palace created after 1770, when Count Gábor Esterházy combined several adjoining properties, one of which had belonged as early as 1581 to the Italian merchant family Angarano, into a single unified building. It is considered one of the finest examples of civic Baroque architecture in Győr, distinguished by a basket-arched, stone-framed gateway, herma figures supporting a wrought-iron balcony above the entrance, cherub ornaments at the corners of the facade, and a sculptural group depicting the coronation of the Virgin Mary set into a niche over the door. In the nineteenth century the Bozzay family further united the property with neighboring buildings on what is now Dr. Kovács Pál street. Today the mansion houses Győr's Municipal Art Museum, whose permanent display centers on the Radnay Collection, making the building both an architectural landmark and an active exhibition space in the historic inner city.
