Fenai Ali Efendi Mosque
This mosque-lodge complex in Üsküdar, Istanbul, was founded in 1714 by Fenaî Ali Efendi, a Celvetî dervish sheikh originally from Kütahya who had trained under Selâmi Ali Efendi and later led his late master's lodge in the Selâmsız quarter before establishing one of his own nearby, in the Pazarbaşı district. Fenaî Ali Efendi spent some thirty-two years teaching there until his death, after which the combined mosque and dervish lodge continued to serve the local community. In 1766-67 a lightning strike damaged its minaret, and when the matter reached Sultan Mustafa III, he commissioned Tıflî Mehmed Emin Efendi to carry out repairs. The complex is also remembered as the Yaldızlı Tekke, or Gilded Lodge, a nickname drawn from the ornate gilded latticework surrounding certain graves within its precinct, making it one of Üsküdar's lesser-known but historically layered Ottoman-era religious foundations.
