Hamidiye Mosque (Balıkesir)
The Hamidiye Mosque stands in the Karesi district at the heart of Balıkesir city, in northwestern Turkey. It was established in 1908, in the final years of Ottoman rule, and takes its name from Sultan Abdul Hamid II, in whose honor a number of mosques bearing the "Hamidiye" name were raised across the empire during his long reign. The Balıkesir building is one of these late-Ottoman religious commissions, reflecting the architectural patronage typical of the period. It has been preserved and continues to serve the surrounding neighborhood as a functioning mosque. The structure is recorded in Turkey's national cultural heritage inventory, confirming its recognized status as a historic monument within Karesi's urban fabric. Though modest in scale compared with the grand imperial Hamidiye mosques of Istanbul, it represents the spread of this naming tradition into Anatolian provincial centers at the turn of the twentieth century.
