Jobbrahúsz Cave
The Jobbrahúsz Cave is one of the caves located in the Pilis Mountains within the Danube–Ipoly National Park, on Nagy-Strázsa Hill.
Description
It is situated in Esztergom-Kertváros. It opens in the quarry that also contains the entrance to the Sátorkőpusztai Cave. Approximately 20 metres northeast of the entrance to the Sátorkőpusztai Cave are the openings of the double‑entrance cave. It formed in middle Triassic Dachstein limestone under phreatic conditions. It consists of a six‑metre‑long structure with two nested spherical chambers. Its infill consists of a small amount of pea‑silt, dust and rubbish. No cave‑walking equipment is required to visit the easily accessible, soot‑covered, inscription‑adorned cave.
In 1997 the cave was first called Jobbrahúsz Cave in the literature. It received the name Jobbrahúsz Cave because its entrances are to the right, 20 metres from the entrance of the Sátorkőpusztai Cave.
Research history
The cave is not mentioned in the 1984 book *Caves of Hungary*, nor is it listed in the national cave register. It does not appear in the manuscript compiled in 1991 that lists the caves of the Pilis Mountains. On 29 May 1997 József Regős surveyed the cave, and using the survey, on 1 June 1997 Sándor Kraus prepared the cave’s plan map and two cross‑section maps. The maps depict the cave at a scale of 1:50.
On May 29, 1997, Sándor Kraus drew a site map showing the geographic locations of the caves of Kis-Strázsa-hegy, Középső-Strázsa-hegy and Nagy-Strázsa-hegy. The map shows the geographic location of the cave marked with the name Jobbrahúsz. In Kraus Sándor's 1997 report it can be read that the Jobbrahúsz cave was already known before 1997, and its map was made in 1997. The site map made in 1997 was included in the report.
