The Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran-Gandzasar Scientific-Cultural Center opened on 21 November 2015 as a branch of the Matenadaran, Yerevan's institute of ancient manuscripts, located near the Gandzasar Monastery complex. The center combines a research department with a museum section exhibiting more than one hundred manuscripts produced historically in the Artsakh and Syunik regions, alongside other old books and documents connected to the area's history. Besides its exhibition halls, the building houses a library, a reading room, and an auditorium used for academic conferences and cultural events. Its renovation was financed through the Pyunik All-Armenian Fund for Human Resources Development. As a branch institution of the Matenadaran, the center was intended to make a regional collection of Armenian manuscript heritage accessible for study and public viewing without requiring travel to Yerevan.
