Şible Mosque
This modest neighborhood mosque in Bursa's historic Yeşil quarter was first built in 1457 at the initiative of Mevlana Bayezid Çelebi, a member of the Şible family after whom the building is named. It is a small, single-minaret structure with a hipped timber roof covered in tile, its prayer hall measuring under ten by nine meters, and its mihrab decorated with pilasters and five tiers of stalactite, or muqarnas, carving. The mosque underwent repairs in 1620 and again in 1901, and in 1987 both the building and its minaret were rebuilt once more by a descendant of the founding family, continuing an unusually direct line of stewardship by the same lineage across more than five centuries. It remains one of the smaller Ottoman-era mosques tucked into Bursa's old religious quarter near the city's larger Green Mosque complex.
