Süleymaniye Camii
Süleymaniye Mosque is a mosque located in Alanya, Antalya.
The mosque was commissioned by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan I. Alâeddin Keykubad during the reorganization of the city in 1231, built on the summit part of the castle, just outside İçkale. However, in later years the mosque was destroyed and in the 16th century during the Ottoman period it was rebuilt by Kanuni Sultan Süleyman.
The single‑minaret mosque is known as Alaaddin, Kale or Süleymaniye. The building is made of rubble stone and has a square plan. It has a tiled dome on an octagonal drum. Fifteen small cubes were placed in the part that serves as the dome’s support to provide acoustics. This feature becomes apparent during worship. The last prayer area is covered by three tiled domes on four pillars. The door and window frames are a fine example of Ottoman wooden carving craftsmanship.
