Szentendre marzipan museum
The Szentendre Marzipan Museum, on Dumtsa Jenő Street in the Hungarian town of Szentendre, showcases the marzipan artistry of local confectioners Mátyás Szamos and Károly Szabó, who in the 1930s pioneered using marzipan to model buildings, royal regalia, and portrait busts rather than simple sweets. Spread across the ground floors of two adjoining houses, its exhibits include a scale model of Hungary's Parliament building and a replica of the Hungarian royal crown, both sculpted entirely from marzipan, alongside busts of historical rulers and popular cultural figures. Among its most striking pieces is a marzipan figure of a Swiss maiden weighing around 78 kilograms, once described as the largest marzipan model in the world. Visitors can also look into the museum's working atelier, where confectioners continue to hand-shape new marzipan figures using the techniques the founders developed.
