The Tettye Spring Cave is a separate karst cavity in the same Tettye travertine formation above Pécs that also contains the better-known Tettye Travertine show cave. Rather than being developed as a tourist attraction, it is documented chiefly as an archaeological site: excavation work carried out there in 1931 uncovered a Roman-period burial ground inside the cave, including graves lined with brick. This combination of a spring-fed natural cavity reused as a cemetery reflects how the porous, easily worked travertine rock of the Tettye hillside was exploited by people long before the area became a tourist destination. The site is of interest mainly to archaeologists and local historians studying Roman-era settlement around Pécs rather than to casual visitors, and it remains far less developed than its tufa-cave neighbor nearby.
