Bursa Mevlevi Dervishes' Lodge Museum
Bursa's Mevlevi lodge was established in 1615 by Cünûnî Ahmed Dede at the order of Sultan Ahmed I and went on to train generations of Mevlevi dervishes over three centuries. Like all dervish lodges across the country, it was shut down under the 1925 law dissolving religious orders, and the complex subsequently fell into disrepair. Following a lengthy restoration effort, the site reopened to the public as a museum, and dervishes performed a semâ ceremony there for the first time in 98 years, an event that coincided with 2023 being marked as the 750th anniversary of Mevlana Rumi's death. The restored complex is organized into three parts: the semahane where the ceremonial whirling once took place, the tomb and sacred courtyard and kitchen area, and the cells and reception hall used by the resident dervishes.
